Knights of Columbus Remodel

The former 1950's Catholic bingo hall located near downtown was underutilized and the church decided to part with the property. A well known local developer of distressed historic properties had a vision to repurpose the structure into a speculative office building.

While the former entry faced the street and allowed convenient access from the adjacent church, a new entry engages the parking lot and creates a new main facade. The once windowless wall of the now main façade is dotted with fenestration providing natural light to the interior and views while arched awnings mediate glare and provide a color contrast for interest. Salvaged masonry from the window openings was reused to extend the entry parapet to form a clearstory for natural light into the lobby atrium. A common lobby on the interior is now centered on the rectangular footprint allowing for multiple tenants and minimizing interior circulation while taking advantage of the grade to allow for accessibility on the exterior.
